A year has passed between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Kylo Ren has become an aggressive leader, bent on thwarting anyone who challenges his rule, be it the Resistance or Palpatine himself. Much of his time within the last year is spent snuffing out dissenters and gaining a foothold on the galaxy one planet at a time. When Palpatine comes knocking, he sees it as a threat and immediately moves to challenge him.

When told of Rey's origins, he is given the mission to kill her but instead chooses to offer her the chance to destroy Palpatine together if she joins the Dark side with him and rules by his side. This is much of his and Rey's conflict throughout the film, coming to blows while Rey tries to find a way to stop Palpatine and he tries to convince her to join him. The major turn of events for him is when his mother dies trying to convince him to return to the light.

By the end of The Rise of Skywalker, Ben Solo has renounced the title of Supreme Leader and the moniker, Kylo Ren, that he held for years. He and Rey intend to fight side by side but he is separated from her and Rey is killed by her attempt to destroy Palpatine once and for all. Ben gives his own life for hers, healing her and returning her from the dead.

The only ability changes are as follows: Force Bond amended to be called Force Dyad and Force Healing will be added to his list of abilities.

With his injuries upon return: Ben will have suffered a cracked rib (or two) and fractured fibula (most likely to be healed by Rey if not healed by the NPC doctors.

Also, His inventory will be updated as follows:

• Skywalker Legacy Saber as well as the clothes he was wearing when he died
  
• Kylo Ren's lightsaber
  
• Standard Issue Blaster (gifted to him by Lando Calrissian in the novel Last Shot)
  
• Regular Clothing for everyday wear
